Why This Initiative Exists
Rwanda Freedom of Speech is a non-profit initiative founded by John B. Simbaburanga, a former Rwanda National Police officer who now advocates for freedom of speech and peaceful dialogue.
This initiative was created from the belief that Rwandans should have a meaningful opportunity to express their views freely, responsibly and peacefully.
Across different periods of Rwanda’s history, the absence of open dialogue has made it more difficult to identify problems, hear different perspectives and find lasting solutions.
When people can speak without fear, communities are better able to discuss concerns openly, encourage accountability and resolve disagreements through respectful dialogue.
Rwanda Freedom of Speech seeks to encourage a culture in which people can share ideas, ask questions and participate constructively in discussions about the future of Rwanda.
