Following the killing of former Rwandan soldier Sgt. Major Robert Kabera who had been critical of the Rwandan government, and the disappearance of his head, security forces have arrested Moses Mujurizi, accused of murdering and eating 38 people between 2010 and 2025 in Masaka, Ibanda and Kazo districts.
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba announced the arrest on his X account on 26 October 2026, calling him the worst serial killer and cannibal in Uganda’s history. He said the suspect will face a public trial and execution if found guilty.
Mujurizi lived and operated mainly in the Greater Masaka area. He is linked to attacks on entire families inside their homes, where assailants broke through walls and used machetes. One case involved the killing of nine members of a pastor’s household in 2013. A related suspect was also charged after a woman was lured with the promise of a relationship and later killed.

Women and girls are especially urged to stay alert. Do not open doors to strangers at night. Avoid meeting unknown people alone after promises of friendship or romance. Secure homes properly and report any suspicious persons near your compound to local leaders or police immediately.
The long period of the alleged crimes shows the need for continued caution in these districts while investigations continue.
