RFOS Welcomes the Restoration of Belgium–Rwanda Relations
Rwanda Freedom of Speech is glad to hear that Belgium and Rwanda have agreed to restore their diplomatic relationship.
RFOS sees this renewed engagement as an opportunity to rebuild trust, strengthen cooperation, and prioritize the well-being of ordinary people.
As the two countries begin their next steps, RFOS encourages them to place freedom of speech, access to information, respect for journalists, and meaningful space for civil society at the centre of their renewed relationship.
Diplomatic cooperation becomes stronger when citizens can express their views openly, discuss disagreements peacefully, and hold institutions accountable without fear.
RFOS welcomes dialogue based on mutual respect, transparency, non-interference, and constructive engagement. We hope this new chapter will contribute to greater openness, justice, peace, and respect for human rights in Rwanda and across the Great Lakes region.
